  • Thanks Redx,

Now that I think about it, it was my regular garage that sent them. Dates for both cars in my diary.

I remember reading about a couple that had bought a new car (zero tax), went out for the day and came back to find it clamped. Cost them a few hundred quid to get it released. They blamed no notification as well.
  • We moved house recently and updated all our details for cars on the log book etc. Despite not ticking the "new owner" box, the DVLA put my OH down as a new keeper (unbeknownst to us).

This obviously then triggered that the car wasn't taxed (although it was because there was no new owner). The first we knew about it was receiving a final reminder for payment. We phoned and they realised the mistake. His tax is zero anyway.

Could something like this have happened with you?

This is yet another downside of the Road Tax Disc being done away with. How the government and Dept of Transport could not have foreseen thge increase in untaxed and uninsured vehicles defeats me.

Having a nice disc telling you when the tax expired was so useful.

My calender in the kitchen does it too, also includes MoT, insurance (I don't rely on reminders) and everything else.
