Laptop - anti virus, firewall etc

My laptop is about 3 years old. Its a Dell Inspiron 15.

Please recommend free anti virus, firewall and spyware software as well as any other ways to make it operate optiumally.

I currently use Avast Anti Virus - which seems fine.

Comodo Firewall which is annoying with pop ups.

    remove comodo and use windows firewall

    If it were me i would remove avast but if you're happy with it then thats fine too.
    Run malwarebytes every now and again ..

    "3rd party firewalls are totally pointless"

    Most third party security software is pointless. Windows 10 has a firewall and it has Windows Defender. The claims that other products have mysterious special secret sauce aren't terribly convincing.

    Try telling that to the masses though - they only feel secure if either :-
    a) they have paid for it, or
    b) It constantly pops up stuff it has done, justifying its existance
