Right to Build

Hello!

I was wondering if there are any other people out there who have registered with their council under the right to build scheme? Especially current and perpetual rent slaves like myself!

I have yet to hear anything further myself and I was hoping for the opportunity to swap experiences and share ideas. Ideally I would like the land to put an eco, custom build house on.

Thanks,
And sorry if this discussion exists already somewhere, I didn't find anything on the search.

  • i've not registered with a local authority myself (but have previously built a house). my understanding is that you register and when a larger developer comes along they may make available a certain number of self build plots within a development that the developer is looking to build out. it is likely that since you registered no developers have made self build plots available.
  • Hi Fuzziness, thank you! I was hoping that I wouldn't have to be so dependent on the private sector and the council would have more autonomy over the land that they own already, but as my expertise are not in this area I'm guided by faith in local government, optimism and enthusiasm to learn more than anything! Hippy idealist, i know ;)

    you go for it.

reading through the information about self build registers it does appear to relate more to developers making serviced plots available for self builders to then buy and put up their own choice of house on it. have a look here http://www.ebuild.co.uk/ as a useful resource on self build albeit that it is no longer operational.
  • great, thanks very much Fuzzyness, much appreciated :)
