Roger Lowe Asbestos Mesothelioma Campaign

ROGER LOWE ASBESTOS MESOTHELIOMA CAMPAIGN

Supporting victims of asbestos-related disease and their families in Plymouth and the South West.

Public meeting speakers, Linda Gilroy M.P. Dennis Yiannakis (Consultant Oncologist), Sean McPhail (SWPHO) and a representative from the family. To raise awareness and provide information about medical and legal concerns.

Stonehouse Creek Community Centre, Plymouth 4.30pm 1st October 2007

Roger Lowe was born and raised in Plymouth. Like his father before him and his grandsons after him, he worked at Devonport dockyard. He knew he had been exposed to asbestos in his time in the dockyard.

Mesothelioma is a relatively rare form of cancer. The only known cause is exposure to asbestos earlier in life. It is incurable. Roger sadly died, just seven months after diagnosis.

His family is determined to raise public awareness of the disease and has set up the Roger Lowe Asbestos Mesothelioma Campaign.

The aims are to:

* provide information for those touched by the disease

* raise awareness of the mesothelioma "time bomb" and other asbestos conditions

* campaign for research, including government funded research into the efficiency of drug therapies and diagnosis of the disease

* work alongside other appropriate organisations in the South West of

England.

Comments

  • My Father used to work as a Boiler-maker in the Dockyard. He spent a lot of time working with Asbestos. My Mum used to wash his clothes and had to beat the dust out by hand. Three years ago she was diagnosed with
Mesothelioma. 7 months later she too was dead as a result of lung cancer.

I applaud you for bringing this matter to the Public's attention and wish you every success with your campaign.
