Voluntarily leaving temp job - JSA?

Sorry if this has been posted before (I looked but couldn't find a recent thread).

I need some advice:

In June I signed off JSA for a temp job. When this finished in October, I immediately secured another temp position (this time with a different agency and this time 'temp ongoing'). I was sceptical about accepting this role for a number of reasons - the main one being the commute - but, just glad to have another job, I accepted it and was determined to give it my all.

However, four weeks in and the difficulties of the commute were even greater than anticipated - two hours to get there on two separate busses meaning I was late every day (I made the time up either by taking a shorter dinner or working late).

I had a discussion with my line manager last Wednesday and we both agreed that this just wasn't working out - i wasn't sacked, just to be clear. We agreed that i would finish last Friday, which I did.

However, having done some research i am in doubt as to whether or not i am eligible for JSA as I voluntarily left a job?

Will the jobcentre check up on my last position and find out i left voluntarily? Is the only other option to not tell the job centre about my last position and simply give my previous role (the one which ended in October) as my last role, even though that isn't morally the correct thing to do?

Sorry it's such a long post, but I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this or could offer some advice?

You left by mutual agreement - as in your employer at the time agreed that you should leave amicably, and you were happy to do this; not "voluntarily".

Just advise the job centre that your last role ended because of mutual agreement of the termination of the contract. You should be fine.

I don't think it would be quite as straightforward as that, as an adviser i would suspend the claim of payment until information was received by the employer.

  • i doubt you would get jsa easily if you say you and your boss agreed that you should go on the dole (in effect)

So are you an adviser then as common sense states employment was ended by mutual agreement The employer would clarify that

Or on the other hand your boss no longer wants you to work for them and appears happy for you to leave . I'd go with Domraviolis likely analysis

I was a temp for 6 years, and the rare gaps between jobs, I have never had an issue with an adviser by stating that (as it is the truth).

I know the DWP have to make enquiries with the agency to gather information, but don't take away from the simple fact that it was mutual agreement, not a voluntary termination as the employer no longer wished to employ them.

Nobody stated that the boss said they should go on the dole, only that the job was no longer available for this person. People leave jobs without claiming benefits you know.

Op, you should have carried on with your job even if you were late and waited to be sacked, until then what's the problem?

    Various reasons:

I hated the job, I hated the nature of the work, I hated the commute and the cost of the commute coupled with minimum wage all added up to a pretty unhappy experience to put it mildly.

I'm sure you'll reply with some witty comeback telling me to 'man up' or some rubbish about me 'wanting to be on benefits' (which couldn't be further from the truth, i'm someone who's been 'paying into the system' for just short of three decades for starters).
