New kitchen cost

Ok, so I know that this is totally variable and dependent on quality, size, taste etc. but am really just looking for a rough idea. Constantly hear horror stories about the cost of new kitchens so wanted to get a rough idea.
Our kitchen isn't massive, and is a galley style with 2 double cabinets on one wall and two singles on the other. 4/5 lower cabinets on either wall and an oven unit (oven not freestanding) with a small unit above. Couple of worktops and that's it.
As part of the house renovation and move in we have had the following new:
Oven
Hob
Dishwasher
Flooring
Wall tiles
So, all I see that needs replacing is the 2 worktops, sink, units and probably the cooker hood. Washing machine is fine so does not need to be replaced. Mid range, surely this can be done for a couple of grand? Fitting would probably be DIY, depends on quotes.
Anyone done a similar amount for a similar price?

Take a spin on Ikea's kitchen planning tool. Very easy to use, just put in room measurements and drop cabinets in, then change the worktops/cabinet doors all in one go.
My sister got one with all appliances (bar dishwasher) for about a grand, and she has units on 3 walls. Cost her around £1.5K to have it all fitted and decorated too.0 -
I thought this was going to be yet another thread by the guy offering cheap kitchens.

We went with Ikea as we were able to fit it ourselves. Went for a mid range and about double the size of yours. Cost about £2k I think not including worktops. You could easily do it for a grand. Our cost rose as I wanted a lot of drawers rather than cupboards.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Sounds good. How is the quality of yours?
I am definitely not averse to the idea of an ikea kitchen as I have found everything I have had from there so far to be of a very good quality, not to mention relatively simple to construct.0 -

I know that post wasn't aimed at me... but my sister's cheap IKEA kitchen looks fab! You would never know. And, she said the oven is actually really good too. Definitely does not look cheap, and she had loads of bits left over afterwards in boxes/packets that hadn't been opened (not sure how she got them in excess...) - and took them back to the store for a refund! She got about £70 back in excess bits and bobs and took me out for tea

Look at DIY kitchens: http://www.diy-kitchens.com
Do a search on this forum - there are lots of good reviews. I got mine from there after a recommendation on here.
And they are made in the UK so not only will you be supporting our industry but you get an excellent product.0 -
I second DIY-kitchens although you do need to get your own design.
I'm in the process of fitting a kitchen from them right now - cost me the equivalent of £4K less than Benchmarx.
I have found their service to be great and everything was well packed and good quality. You do need to be prepared for a couple of things to go wrong with your order but mine was a big order and I expected that.
Visit their showroom to get some good ideas.

Our kitchen has only been finished a few months ago but it is absolutely solid and looks great. The rail system for fixing it to the wall is so easy to use and means the units are fixed so firmly you could probably swing from them, but if need be you can take them off too by means of a little latch thing.
And they look great too. Everyone who has seen it has admired it.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
