Skype Video Conference Calls

I am looking for advice we are club and we are having trouble with folk attending meetings. Last night we trialled a skype group video call which was ok but the issue that was highlighted was poor hardware notably microphones.
I use an old Doro Skype phone which was great but although they can still be bought they are not widely available.
I think most problems arose from laptops with built in mics.
What is the best and cheapest way forward? Are bluetooth headsets a good option?
