Why did you fail your driving test?
Hi Guys, I am preparing for my driving test, My driving test is in January.I just wanted to know what was the reason of you failing your driving test (If you have ever failed a driving test),,. Just want to get some ideas, I know the main reasons are "being nervous, not enough lessons etc" but I wanted to hear from you guys
Also, Do you guys believe in sites like https://testfinder.co.uk who bring your driving test forward? I might give it a try as the waiting time in our test centre is insane!
Many Thanks:cool:

I was so nervous my leg was shaking so badly I couldn't control the clutch and stalled twice. Second time no issues and flew through it laughing to my self that the examiner was wearing a nasty pair of trousers from the £5 bargain bin bought from where I worked. A real bin dipper.0

I had two driving lessons with an instructor in the week running up to my test and passed first time
I had been driving for around six months with somebody sat with me who had no qualifications as a driving instructor and as i was approaching the test date i had two lessons that cost £3.50 per lesson to give an idea of how long ago this was0 -

My leg did the same thing when I was asked to do a three point turn. Luckily, I managed to put the car in neutral and the handbrake on while it calmed down, then restarted the manoeuvre. I didn't fail.0 -
I was lucky to pass first time back in 2003. I did get 3 minors though and I still remember them now!! It was approaching a roundabout too quickly, dry steering when I did my reverse into a bay and not doing a final shoulder check when I pulled out from the side of the road.
If I was going to fail it would have been on a roundabout, I used to find the big ones confusing but the examiner got me to come off the first exit so I got lucky. I was also shocking at reversing around corners but got a turn in the road instead. You could say I got lucky on the day because the route he took me was almost the same as the one my instructor took me on the hour before my test so it was all familiar to me.
I was maybe not so lucky though as it took me a good year to become a confident driver (and two car parking incidents where I scraped other cars) so it probably would've done me good to fail first time.
Good luck!0 -
1st time ... I was 17 and I hadn't had any formal lessons, just instruction / driving practice with my Dad. The examiner (known at the time as Mirrors McKenzie, because he seemed to expect people to drive looking in the mirrors rather than forward) must have known this as he had a face like thunder, and seemed (to me) to have decided to fail me regardless.
(That was my opinion ... whether that opinion was valid is a separate question).
2nd time ... I was 23 and I had formal lessons. Passed with flying colours.0 -
I failed my first test way back in 1967 (passed 2nd time)! I was using my Dad's MG Magnette and approached a cross roads a bit too fast with no right of way on all directions.
The examiner muttered "bus route crossing" and I noticed his fists were tightly clenched. I slowed down, but not enough, and had to slam on the brakes as a double decker bus crossed my front end. After we had composed ourselves I said to the examiner, "sorry about that, but does that count as my emergency stop?"
The test was completed with the obvious end result.
Coincidentally he was the examiner on my second and successful test a couple of months later.0 -
I failed in December 1974.
The main reason was that it was Friday the 13th.
Other reasons were:
My instructor changed his car the week before. It was still a mini but the pedals were much stiffer and the whole car felt 'different'.
I didn't have enough experience.
My instructor told me I didn't need any more lessons just practice. I never had another lesson just hours of practice in my own car accompanied by my father. I passed second time. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
I can hardly remember what i did yesterday. I've no idea about something from over 45yrs ago.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Failed on going through a red light.
Naturally i believe it was unfair. The instructor decided to do an emergency stop. I later pointlessly argued that had it been safe to stop i wouldnt have ended up in the middle of the junction after she performed the emergency stop and wouldve been well before the lights. No other faults
She passed me second time after i warned her i would mount a kerb to make a corner. It was either swing out across a dual carriageway or mount the kerb. Think the other fault (2 in total for 2nd test) was mirrors.0 -
In the 1950's my dad had driven a lot but not past a test, most people were driving pre war bangers as was my dad. He took his test sure he would pass and failed, tried again and failed, now very nervous he tried the third time, he said he never drove so poorly even in the emergency stop his door fell off the car and he had to tie it on with some wire and he passed!, he always thought that the examiner did not like it if you appeared too confident, but that was a long time ago and very different conditions.0
