Aviva Car seat nightmare!!

Hi, I've been a very unlucky motorist of late. About 3 weeks ago I was hit from behind at t junction. The person who hit me was insured by direct line. Direct line have been great...they arranged for a hire car and replaced the 2 car seats I had in my car. No problems and have now written of my car sending me money...a prompt and happy situation.

However, 1 week ago my hire car was hit from behind when I was stationary on an A road waiting to turn off...we were hit at about 40 mph. On this occasion I had 3 children in the car in 3 car seats (2 which were from my husbands car as mine were broken from the first crash and I hadn't got round to buying the new ones) so this meant I was down 5 car seats.

This is the nightmare...my insurance company say they can't help cos direct line arranged the hire car. Direct line say they can't help as the claim is to be made by enterprise (the hire car company) enterprise gave me the claim reference number and told me to contact aviva... Who are the insurance company for the person who hit me.

I have emailed aviva three times, spent several hours on hold to them and various departments, to be told that someone will ring me and they haven't.

I've checked on aviva's website and they clearly say that once a car seat has been in an accident then it needs to be replaced on account of potential damaged caused. 2 of the car seats visibly broke in the crash in anycase.

So 1 week 2 days on aviva has not contacted me or responded to my email requests.

My nightmare is my son was in an extended rearward facing car seat costing £200 to replace. My daughter was in a highback booster which had past all safety checks and cost £190 and my friends child was in standard car seat costing £90 to replace. This is a total cost of nearly £500 6 weeks before Christmas!!!

I've checked on aviva's website and they said they will replace car seats to a cost of £100 each, which in my opinion is rubbish as I'm yet to find a car seat that has passed the Swedish plus test and costs £100.

So anyway my question is how do I get aviva to respond to me and reimburse the cost of the car seats.

I don't really want to instruct a solicitor...it would seem ridiculous as at this time I just want the cost of my car seats back!!!

In my opinion aviva are the worse car insurance company!!!! Help!!!

As you aren't a customer of Aviva you are left without the benefit of the FOS to assist

So if you don't want to use your solicitor then maybe a county court claim against the third party might be your route forward

Ignore the £100 limit you have seen on avivas website. That will be the cover they offer their own policyholders and is irrelevant to your claim
  • I complained on their Facebook page. Was contacted by them in 2 hours on instant messaging. Was rung in 5 hours and bacs transfer made today. Moral of story don't bother trying to rung people and be rationale...just whinge on Facebook!!!
