Ideas please for my oldest and dearest friend's Christmas presents

Options
Each year, my friend comes a long way to stay with me for a night or two at the beginning of December. We always exchange gifts and always get it just right. This year I am struggling. This is possibly due to the fact that I can't even think of anything I would like myself that has much point to it. Since reaching the ripe old age of 65, I feel less than inspired when I shop online or anywhere else really.

We both like the same stuff, are both into hygge, love our homes, travel, clothes etc. But I have run out of inspiration sadly. I'm intending to go to some craft markets in the hope of finding something but I just don't know what. We love opening gifts and giving gifts but I'm well and truly stuck after all these years.

Have a look on pinterest. without some idea of what they do and don't like (travel and homes are far too broad to suggest ideas, narrow that down), nobody is going to be able to help you.

As she is into hygge would she like something like an LED blossom tree or a salt rock lamp - something that gives off a soft glow rather than a blinding white light?
    lovin' this site!

  • You can never have too many accessories!

Belts, bags (and I include nice shoppers in that), earrings, costume jewellery.

You will know your friend's taste. If you both love crafts, why not try making a simple necklace or bracelet? There are plenty of kits available online, and your gift will be totally original (plus made with love).

    :)

I have never in my entire life heard people being into Hygge - and I'm born and bred danish!

However to me the ultimate thing about hygge is that it's friends and family, enjoying time together and snuggling and being cosy.

If you want to follow the hygge theme then why not make her a hamper with danish goodies? There is a shop in London that delivers too called Scandi Kitchen. Order chocolates, sweets, maybe Gammel Dansk or Aquavit and candles, a quilt or blanket, slippers and stick big letters on it and write Hygge Kit

For the record all the danes I know are baffled with this current fad for our "hygge" concept to be honest :)

Oh and what about craft kits? We danes have a thing about out paper hearts and stars that you can make yourself or you could buy a georg jensen christmas ornament :)

Of course the ultimate thing we have at Chrismas is Nisser - hard to explain but I guess they're similar to elf on the shelf. Do google Nisser - they're the closest to christmas hygge that I can think of!

Ah, but we do like to have our trends, here in the UK. Otherwise, what would the magazines and newspaper features have to write about? lol. I have always liked being cosy and snuggling in the winter so I'm bang on trend.

Thank you for the information re Scandi Kitchen, I will definitely explore that option, for my own interest as my friend will be limited in luggage space with her travelling around.

Those hearts are lovely, I've seen them in a book and I intend to make them with my grandchildren when they visit next month. I would like to find some glossy paper if I can.

I have had an elf on the shelf for the past 5 years. The grandchildren actually look forward to his arrival in my house, especially as he brings them the occasional sweet if they've been good. I'm loving being a grandma.:)

I will look up Nisser, thanks.

Do you have a link for this, please?

Maybe, as a newbie, you are not allowed to post links.

Ask and ye shall receive ;)

    http://www.pandurohobby.co.uk/search?q=glanspapper

The danish name is glanspapir, swedish one is glanspapper if you want to do your own searches :) Panduro do a lot of scandi things and I've used them before.

Someone did mention a book about Hygge or rather living more danishly - not sure that I'd persdonally think it's all that different lol But there ARE lots of books about Hygge right now (bloody trend! lol) so there is that as an option... And what about an awesome Norwegian jumper if you have loads of money to spend? They are just blooming amazing!!!
