PC randomly rebooting & black screen

Hello
My husbands pc is about 4 years old. We installed windows 10 about 6 months ago.
For the last 3 weeks the pc has been randomly switching off then rebooting but with a black screen. Seems like it might be chosing to randomly install updates.
However, he turned the 'updates' off to try and stop that - but it is still doing it.
I don't think it's overheating otherwise it wouldn't power back up, but it's getting harder and harder to get the screen to come back on. He run all virus checks and scan disks. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!

You cant really stop updates happening properly ..
However they should not cause the behaviour you describe.
Can you tell us the make and model of the machine ? Updating the bios might be in order0 -

I'd suggest going back to previous (Windows 10) build - for no other reasons than seeing if it works (and its easy to try). Backup important data first.
** only go back to a previous Windows 10 build - no point in going further back. **

The option may not be available so come back to us.0 -
At the moment the screen wont come on at all. Been like that all afternoon.
It's an Acer btw.
Any ideas folks?0 -
We have given it a new battery and reset it to factory & it was ok for about 3 days. Now is has started shutting down again randomly.
Any more ideas please?0 -
When it shuts down, does it say "shutting down" or does it just ping off ??
If it is a laptop then check the fan vents and ensure they are not full of fluff and dust0 -
I suggest faulty power supply or motherboard. More likely PSU. Here's a cheap one (assumes your computer is a standard size).
