Quick Question on Moving in - Energy

Moved into a house, the person before was on a higher tariff than when I switched to (switched to old supplier).
They're charging me for a month (give or take) as that was while the switch was happening.
Bill breaks down as:
ELECTRIC:
Usage: £5.73
Standing Charge: £16.44
+VAT = £23.28
Tariff is "Variable Price v1" - which I didn't choose.
68.4p a day in standing charge - I've never seen one so high before!
GAS:
Will add when it arrives.
I guess I have to pay this no matter what?
The last house owner didn't leave any readings with the company so I told them the meter reading of when I entered, and then when I switched.

You will have to pay the bill as it is still energy you used, regardless of tariff.
Looks like a standard variable tariff"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

When we moved in last May, we had to stay with the supplier of the last occupant until we switched. It took about a month and, yes, we had to pay for whatever tariff he was on.
The figures you mention don't seem to be that much when you take into consideration what you must have paid out over the last months. I was just keen to get everything paid so I knew which money was actually mine, and which had yet to be paid out.
Hope you are happy in your new home.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -
Also meant to say.....the previous owner moved out two weeks before we moved in. He gave the supplier meter readings for that date. That made us liable for the standing charge for those two weeks as well. I probably could have argued, but didn't have the energy.
Didn't have the energy.....get it. Please yourself.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0
