Boiler Replacement

Hi, It seems as though our boiler is on its way out. A 10yr old worcester boiler. We both work so arent entitled to any schemes for boiler replacement and dont have much if any funds! Is there any help we can get or anywhere somebody could recommend for pay monthly payments? Many Thanks

A loan. My preferred method would be an interest free credit card though providing your fitter/supplier accepts credit card, with regular payments that will clear the balance before interest is charged.
  • Unfortunately with 2 loans already that isnt an option.

10 years does not seem very long for a bolier to last - when you say "on its way out" do you mean it still works?
  • It no longer works on timed - the pressure is constantly going from zero to 3 bar all day so losing pressure then too much pressure! It makes very suspicious noises aswell. Im getting a firm out to look at it but from what I was reading online combi boilers only last 10-15 years anyway

If you cant borrow money and you dont have any money you dont have any options.

Any company willing to give you a pay monthly option will be lending you money and will more than likely undergo a credit check. Doesnt matter what you call the debt (loan, credit card, HP whatever) they will take in to account existing debts. If a loan isnt an option i doubt there would be many other options in terms of servicing it with debt.

Maybe look at getting it repaired, will be cheaper than replacement.
  • We can still borrow - Im just reluctant to go to a bank for more. Id prefer a pay monthly option directly with the installer/company even if it means paying slightly more in interest. Im getting a company out but if it does need replaced then I may just go with the likes of British Gas/Help Link and pay monthly. Thanks for your help.

My combi is 11 years old and have not used the "timed" feature - I turn it on when I'm cold and off when I'm hot.

My pressure guage is 1 bar on a cold system 1st thing in morning and goes up to just under 3 when i heat the radiators which means the pressure vessel is either leaking (needs replacing) or needs re-pumping (i think a tyre pump is normally used).

I can only run my radiators at about 30% max temperature due to the pressure issue but I don't like having them too hot so not too much of a worry. If I send the pressure over 3 bar it tends too loose water via the relief valve meaning it will drop below 1 bar when cold so needs water adding - not a good thing to have to do too often as it dilutes the rust inhibitor in the system
  • That sounds very similar to my boiler! I just dont want christmas day to come and for the boiler to pack up

I would try for a credit card first. Then a loan. Then just waiting until the boiler breaks whislt trying to save. Then just use kettle for hot water for a while and shower at the swimming baths whilst wearing extra jumpers at home and then might and only might if the outside temperature dropped to -5 consider getting a finance option.

    Each to their own though.
