what is the best saver's account right now?

I got a phone call from my mother few weeks ago urging me to open a saver's account with TSB because they have good interest rate.

Just wondering if there are any better ones out there or are they all pretty much the same?

If she is on about the current account paying 5% on £2k currently, then yes this is the best rate at the moment, but due to drop to 3% on £1.5k in Jan 2017.

your best bet for a good rate at the minute for smaller amounts would be Nationwide FlexDirect current account. 5% fixed for 12 months (then reverts to 1% after the 12 months) on up to £2500 provided you pay in £1000 per month. there are others out there but for smaller sums of money i would advise to look at this.
Also has a regular saver linked to it which means you can deposit up to £500 each month in regular saver paying 5% for 12 months too

The nationwide account gives 5% fixed for a year on £2500. Three regular savers in the HSBC group (First Direct, M&S, HSBC) offer 5% for a year. I don't think anything else offers 5% or higher now that TSB announced they are reducing their rate.

Lazy people get lowest rates, you should know better.
