I had little opinion about this man prior to the referendum but he has since become someone I actively dislike. I mean, all politicians are snakes but this man is just an out-and-out liar.
A few days after the referendum, Boris writes:
In the words of one of the most prominent leave campaigners, immigration was apparently not the primary issue. Soothing your own conscience Boris? Of course, people will twist his words to mean that control means control of immigration, I expect this and will not respond to that. Just read his paragraph again, his message above was clear. "It was mainly not about immigration".
Then in the same article:
A duplicitous little soundbite. So can young people easily go and study abroad or not Boris? Can they retain the same level of access as their parents? What about that couple who are close to retirement and wanted to move somewhere in Europe as part of the EU with full privileges of an EU citizen?
But Boris has changed his tune. These are his most recent views:
Back-tracking of note. Sounds like it was about immigration all along eh Boris?
I wonder if he feels the same when people from Yorkshire move to London?
A few days after the referendum, Boris writes:
It is said that those who voted Leave were mainly driven by anxieties about immigration. I do not believe that is so. After meeting thousands of people in the course of the campaign, I can tell you that the number one issue was control – a sense that British democracy was being undermined by the EU system, and that we should restore to the people that vital power: to kick out their rulers at elections, and to choose new ones.

Of course, people will twist his words to mean that control means control of immigration, I expect this and will not respond to that. Just read his paragraph again, his message above was clear. "It was mainly not about immigration".
Then in the same article:
British people will still be able to go and work in the EU; to live; to travel; to study; to buy homes and to settle down.

But Boris has changed his tune. These are his most recent views:
He said: “Everybody now has it in their head that every human being has some fundamental God-given right to move wherever they want. It’s not true. That was never the case. That was never a founding principle of the EU. Total myth.”
...
“[There will be a] dynamic trade relationship [between the UK and the EU] and we will take back control of our borders
Back-tracking of note. Sounds like it was about immigration all along eh Boris?

People change their minds.
Mrs Merkel no longer thinks unfettered immigration is a good thing. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -

Quite, be a bit weird if everyone only stuck to their first views on things
Merkels only changed her mind as she knows if she doesn't, her pet project goes down the pan, funny how all of a sudden, after years of FOM being a priority, its no longer consider such, in a matter of days0 -

I had little opinion about this man prior to the referendum but he has since become someone I actively dislike. I mean, all politicians are snakes but this man is just an out-and-out liar.It is defined as an adjective relating to circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than emotional appeals.
We are now in the post-truth era, where populism, deception and demagoguery is rule of the day....while learning, facts and wisdom are dismissed as elitist and out of touch.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Indeed, untruths and fear based myths are the stock-in-trade of terrified remainers
Their populist terror campaigns are almost entirely based on wildly exaggerated claims and faulty modelling.
2 Treasury Select Committees found the referendum era claims were entirely based on nothing more than the political aims of the day, and remainers fell for it, lol
Leave's supposed lie was that we will be able to decide for ourselves how to spend the gross £350 million per week. Hardly a lie. In any event even if we take the net sum, IT'S STILL HUGE0 -
Deception of the century;
The entire Govt, establishment, all 3 main parties and the PM told us the referendum result would be implemented.
No mention of some back-clause, no mention is was merely advisory. Imagine if a Bank advertising campaign had been similarly misleading.
Liberal establishment trough feeders have taken public manipulation to an entirely new level.0 -
UKIPers. A group largely composed of people who don't go anywhere and live in shires miles from anyone foreign, don't want free movement to continue.
Johnson prevaricates as the Tories prevaricate, a party being torn apart by its insistence that it must pander to the racist right while occupying a notional middle ground.0 -
No mention of some back-clause, no mention is was merely advisory.
The European Union Referendum Act 2015 made no provision for the result to be legally binding on the government or on any future government.
The fact that you chose to ignore (or not understand) this, is neither here nor there.
I also pointed this out to you before the referendum result was known, so you can't claim ignorance.mayonnaise_(on_June_16th) wrote: »Moot point as the referendum result is not legally binding, merely advisory.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Yet it was always a non-binding referendum. Politicials lie, so you should look at what they do, not what they say.
Plus, A50 is still likely to be triggered, it's just unlikely to result in all them foreigners having to go home. We might actually be able to scrape our way out of this one :T0
