Shower Enclosure Problem

Hi all I wonder if anyone can help. The silicone where my shower enclosure meets the shower tray is dotted with black mould and some areas really bad. I've tried bleach and a tooth brush but it doesn't seem to touch it. Th grout is pretty poor as well. Is replacement a DIY job or should I get seomeone in. the shower-room was only built in 2004 - I would have expected it to last a bit longer. How much would this job cost? Thanks. ps My partner uses one of those daily shower cleaner sprays which according to him means you don't have to clean the enclosure (Yeah right!) but coauld this dripping onto the silicone be causing the problem?

I've had a similiar problem with silicone and grout around the shower area of my bathroom. I tried bi-carb mixed with bleach until it goes into a paste, then with an old toothbrush, put the paste onto the areas and leave for a good hour. Then clean the paste off with a damp cloth. If its really bad it may need a second application.This tip, I found on this site and it worked really well for me. It may be worth a try before any DIY work!!

I just wanted to say THANKS to TSB - I put the paste on about 9.30 this morning and I've just removed it with the shower and every bit of black has come off the silicone. Thank you so much. The grout hasn/t worked as well but once the shower tray is dry I'm going to get in and attack it with a cloth

I use Dettol mould & mildew remover. It's in a green spray bottle. It removes all the black from silicone.
