PPI from a loan a long time ago

Hi All,

Hope the collective geniuses on here can assist with some claims I think I have for PPI please? I bought 2 cars from Peugeot in 1998 and 2000 and definitely had PPI on them, I have checked with my bank and they can't trace the accounts back that far, so I can't get the account number or payment terms, how do I go about taking this forward please?

Also and I appreciate the basic nature of this question, when I took out other loans from Sainsbury for example how can I check if there was an element of PPI in the payments?

Finally from me, again apologies for the "Janet and John" level of questions, can I make a claim for GAP insurance if that was put onto a car purchase when I didn't want it? It was just included into the monthly amount I agreed to pay.

I have had several payouts recently some from 1996/1998 but they didn't relate to car loans.

Most of the PPI companies will do no win /no fee speculative searches , they just need a company name ie Sainsbury's , they will get an authority from you to run searches.

I was told they would not be able to do anything re checking car companies, I had a loan with Ford Finance and said wouldn't be able to check, no idea why, but a google search did show that pre 2005 car loans by such companies not regulated so may be why.

Sorry no idea what GAP insurance is , the only thing PPI insurance claims cover are insurance policies that pay out if you are made redundant etc .

Both these sales are pre-regulation so you don't go forward at all I'm afraid, you have to complain to the dealer but as they were not regulated they can dismiss any such claim without access to the FOS. You could then try and find the underwriter/insurer of the finance and see if they'd take it on but they don't have to. Without proof you paid it you'd be stuck either way

Ring them up and ask, provide as much details as you can. Spend £10 on a DSAR if you don't think the front line staff are able to see all your old records

Not really, why didn't you refuse to accept it at the time? Any paperwork still left will show you agreed to have it

A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Banks were regulated before 2005 and tend to have good records

Which is what you can do yourself without risking losing 25-50% of any refund, PPI claims firms do nothing you cannot do yourself for free

    Yes pre-regulation = no claim

GAP insurance covers the difference between the value of the insurance payout in the event of a lost vehicle and either the value of a new car or the value of the finance package so you don't end up without a car and owing money
