Polo continous stalling

Hi everyone if any one can help I will be truly grateful.

So I have a 2003 Polo sport, and it dosen't do it all the time however when i turn it on it cannot keep its revs up. I need to keep my foot on the gas in order for it not to stall. If I put my car into neutral while traveling it will stall if I don't continuously have my foot on the gas.

I have taken it to many garages who say there is nothing on its computer, and i recently got the brake servo pipe replaced as it had a split on it. It also isnt weather dependant as it does this all year round.

Its been doing this for a year now and I have no idea what to do next.

Thank you!!!

  • Your throttlebody is probably gummed up so the first thing I would do is get it cleaned.

After it's had a clean, get it reset. The engine control unit has probably spent so much time attempting to adapt itself to a leaky servo pipe condition that it doesn't know where its base setting is.

Faulty lambda sensor would do this too.

Apparently a common issue on these cars as the 5 pin connector is very exposed and tends corrode badly, lambda sensors also have a harsh life living inside the exhaust system at it's hottest point.

Youve taken it to a garage and they say nothing on the computer. Tell them to install youtube there is always something on.

Have you actually paid one of these garages to service it?

A good garage wont just wait for a code to appear, they may not even have the right kit for it. Are these mains dealers? Sometimes a main dealer is more useful for these sort of things.

A £5 lead from ebay and free VDCS software would be where my money would be spent.

    Check for air leaks also.

So basically it wont idle. The idle control is part of the throttle body and is electronic on them
  • Thank you everyone so much, so I am going to show this to my mechanic. He recently serviced this 3 weeks ago (hence the replacement of the servo pipe). He specialises in VW and Audi's so fingers crossed one of these will do the trick. I am taking it back to the Garage on Monday, so will keep you updated.

Thank you again (and please excuse the poor car technical terms).
