Who to go with??

Hi all,

I normally post a lot on the DFW board, I'm moving into a rented house on sat and am trying to get all my utilities as low as possible. The current supplier npower for Gas/Elec. I've been living with my DD & my Mum and we've used British Gas for both, we've not had any problems with them and have ended in £200+ in credit.

I've used uSwitch and Powergen come up best for me, but I'm a bit dubious about changing to someone other than British Gas and after reading some of the posts on here, I'm thinking they're all as bad as one another.

I can't risk getting high bills and having my monthly DD's going up. At the moment for a 3 bed place we pay £30 for each. I'm moving to a 3 bed end terrace, just me and a 2yr old. I'm very careful with elec, nothing gets left on stand by and I turn off lights etc, got energy saving lightbulbs.

Can anyone suggest which company is the better of all of them, i'm very confused about it all!!

Thanks in advance

Tigz

They all have good and bad points. Have you tried doing a comparison with various numbers for usage in KW/h using a comparison site like energyhelpline? That sort of comparison is far more accurate than one based on bill amounts but obviously with you moving into a new property you might want to try average values for usage of gas and electricity as a starting point - around 4,000KW/h per annum for electric and 28,000KW/h per anuum for gas I believe.

Lotta info in the stickies, Tig. and as Far says. usage not bill amounts.
Insulation and draughtproofing are important, see your landlord. Heavy curtains up doors and windows help. Lots of insulation in roof. Draw the curtains early in the winter, keep doors shut. You should manage on £60 a month. British gas are expensive, tho you will have to register with the existing provider first. Post who they are, we will help.

Make a note of electric, gas and water meter readings now. Very important.

I use Atlantic and would recommend.
