Good afternoon all,

Just after a bit of advice. I am planning to rid myself of the dreaded ideal isar he24 combi boiler and initially my plan was to get a Vaillant/Worcester installed. I have been warned off this by an installer due to them having a few recent issues now and also the manufacturers being difficult with the warranty not to forget the cost.

I never wanted to touch ideal again after the problems I've had with my current one but my local engineer swears by the ideal logic +30 boiler. Does anyone have any knowledge of if these are good or not?

Also is a 30Kw good enough for my house which has 3 receptions, 4bedrooms and 1bathroom (9rads in total). water pressure to the property is very good

Your help would be appreciated.

I have an ideal logic+ combi and it has been fault free. Only had it 3 years but haven't had to so much as look at it if I didn't want to.

Can't really say much more than that.
  • Trust your feelings & forget the logic, what are the recent issues your installer is talking about ?
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • I've got an Ideal Logic+ combi and it's been problem free since it was installed 18 months ago. It was cheaper than comparable models I looked at and it came with a 7 year warranty. Apparently previous Ideal boiler models had a poor reputation but if you search this forum you'll find very good feedback on the the Logic+.
  • Louison, when you get it serviced get the engineer to check the sump for a split ;)

It seems like ideal logic+ does have some good reviews and is better priced than a lot of the so called big brands.

I was told by my engineer that vaillant were giving 5/7year warrantys but as they couldn't keep up with them due to too many call outs, they were either writing the boiler off or telling the customer the problem was due to sludge etc (basically worming their way out of fixing the boiler).

All boilers will have their own faults/deficiencies but I expect a company to fix it if there is a warranty on the boiler.

South coast rgi- what do you recommend and why do you say no to the logic?

I have a Logic + combi coming up to 3 years old and it has been fine, (touch wood) I think it is down to what boiler your installer likes and get a long warranty with it as well.

Thanks for the heads up about the sump South coast rgi, does it leak bad from the bottom of the boiler when it cracks?
  • Ideal as a company don't have very good customer service when it comes to getting a repair done, the heat exchanger is made of the same material as your old boiler & most of it ends up in the condense trap, the main heat exchanger in the early models were made in China & lots of them leaked however it looks like they have sorted that now, the sumps are made of a compensate material & they are starting to crack in some instances which is a fairly easy replacement but why should you have to,

The only Ideal that you might consider is the Vogue but this comes at a premium price,

All boiler manu require it to be fitted to a clean system & could void the warentee.

If you are looking for a good boiler at a good price then look at Intergas & if you get a P5 installer you will get extra warentee foc ( they won the best boiler award 2016 )

  • The problem I have is my installer is insisting on ideal logic+ so I don't really want to go against his recommendation. He has offered me the other boilers but then said he is just talking from his own experience.

It seems like the ideal logic also won a few awards a few years ago and I'm told they've also improved a few parts since then.

Ideal may be offering more bonus to the fitter than Worcester at the moment. This can influence what they want to fit.

Bosch-Worcester came top in a recent Which? test. Second was Vailant.
    Nice to save.
