Esure and terrible claims service

My wife and I took out an Esure home policy two years ago....it was cheap and we got to them by a comparison website - gocompare.
In April 2016 our washing machine leaked and damaged our wooden floor boards....a quick call to Esure and they appointed their Claims Assessors - Imperial Consultants.
A few days later and one of their people come to the house and tried to get my wife to sign a settlement deal for £2,800 in full and final settlement of the claim. At this point she said she didn't think this would be enough to repair the damage and therefore refused to except offer.
Various emails/quotes followed for the next six months (yes six months!) before Esure agreed to send out a new Assessor....his report said that the claim should be settled for a minimum of £10,200...
I am only posting this to warn people about Esure. The service has been truly shocking and they have still to send us the outstanding amount of £1,750 to finalise the claim - seven months later the work is starting....we are now paying for it ourselves as we cannot wait any longer...
The funny thing about this claim is that I have been an Insurance Broker for the last 29 years! If I can be caught out by this type of service then lots of people will also except the first offer....
Also funny that gocompare and Esure are all part of the same organisation....I thought comparison websites should be independent....how silly am I!
I will get my own back on Esure though as every chance I get I am telling my story to clients, friends and on sites like this.....I will only stop when they send me the last payment of the claim...I am also going to be on TV to talk about my experience.....
Just a warning to you all.....the price may be good but do not have a claim!

Firstly sorry to hear you've had a poor time with esure.
You're not the first and I doubt you'll be the last. They do have a bit of a rep on here...
Where possible you should always seek to use the insurers own tradespeople to do the work rather that offer you a cash settlement, if you do then you only need to stump up your excess and have no further dealings with money.
If you take a cash settlement they are only liable to pay you what it would have cost them to repair using their own network (which is usually cheaper due to the volume of business they put through the network).
It's quite common knowledge that go compare was owned by esure, however I believe they are going through a demerger.
Other brokers and insurers have owned or own other comparison sites, its not unusual or a big secret, but whilst they are owned by the same parent company they are silo'd businesses and don't offer their own products cheaper.
Just out of interest which tv show are you going on?0 -
I would be very surprised if the assessor / Esure didn't have a solution to perform the works themselves for the quoted price. The cash settlement will be at the price the assessor / fitter could do the work for on behalf of the insurer (i.e., there are discounts involved).
How large is the kitchen area? Is it solid plank or engineered plank? Was there damage to the subfloor / did units have to come out? £10,200 seems an incredibly ... fair ... settlement.
Also, where have you noted that Esure & GoCompare are one and the same? I've never come across that one before?0
