PayByPhone - overcharged £118.50

Hi,

Has anyone else been overcharged by PayByPhone before?

I first used PayByPhone on 6/11/16 to park at Location 59011 (Bath Road North) as I did not have coins for the parking machine.

I paid for parking (£1.80) between :

Start Parking: 2016/11/06 5:53PM
Stop Parking: 2016/11/06 6:53PM
Cost: £1.80 including VAT and Service Charge

I opened the app and extended by stay by one (1) hour, and left the car park before this time period expired.

I've checked my email and bank statement and can see I've been charged £1.80 plus £120.30.

Start Parking: 2016/11/06 6:53PM
Stop Parking: 2016/11/21 7:59AM
Cost: £120.30 including VAT and Service Charge

I've contacted them but heard nothing back yet - anyone had any luck getting their money back?

  • Yes - I was overcharged £59 on Nov 8th. Spoke to them last Monday and was told they had an issue with their systems the week before and people were overcharged so it would be refunded.

Still not refunded so called today and was told refunds take 2 weeks! Guy couldn't tell me why so long and was being very rude. Told me to email head office.

Have now emailed them to query this.

Frankly disgusting that they actually knew about a fault which was overcharging customers yet haven't communicated this out to them. Pretty sure there are numerous breaches there. Will be so many people out there who have been overcharged and will have no idea.

I want to take this further and have someone investigate this.

Do you have any idea who can be contacted to look into this, whether on this site or elsewhere?
  • Try Trading Standards.
  • Thanks - will do
  • Just raise a dispute with your card issuer, saying that you were charged in error and that the supplier has not refunded your money, as promised. Why are you chasing a bunch of incompetent *&@#$? Your card issuer will take the money back and PayByPhone will have to prove to the card issuer that you owe £1.80, which will cost them more than that, so they probably won't bother.
