Will paying back a default help?

I know many people are saying ignore your score its fictional but it obviously holds some weight or it wouldn't exist and after all it is calculated based on your financial behaviour.
My score is poor. Started the year at just 94 and now up to 349.
My question is I have 2 defaults. I know they will show for 6 years but will my score improve after they are settled? I am paying them back regardless but I am at a loss how else to improve myself ready for a mortgage in future. I guess maybe time is the only hope?

Your score holds no weight. Stories about unicorns exist and they're not real either. It's based on the view of a company who doesn't lend money. No one cares about their opinion.
Lenders will view you more positively if you settle defaults, although the initial default is still a bad thing.0 -
Don't get yourself in a situation to get defaults again.
Lenders see your credit history and thats it.0 -
Yes a settled default is better generally than an unsettled one0
