apps on a Polariod tv

Here is the final reply from a very helpful lady at Asda CS online;
I’m very sorry for the time taken to get back to you on this, it shouldn’t have taken me as long as it has and I hope we can resolve this for you now.
The Polaroid Model you have does not have the software for All 4, ITV and Demand 5 services and will not be updated with them.
I have been trying to understand exactly why, as I personally would have expected to be able to use these types of services on a smart TV. I’ve been advised that what services are available on what TV unit is dependent on the services that were on specification at the time of production and also the licensing the actual manufacturer of the TV had at the time.
The final response I have been given is, when this model was produced the manufacturer did not have the license for these applications and it was not detailed within the specification from Asda to the manufacturer. I have been challenging this and trying to get the specific dates to check if there was a license at the time that would allow us to do a software update for your model and right now this has not been confirmed. Even though a software update could be physically done, if the license was not in place at the time of manufacture it is not something we can do. Just so you know, all TV units manufactured for Asda do now have all of the catch up applications as part of the specification.
I can appreciate this is frustrating to read, I do hope that although it’s not what you want to hear, that it makes sense.
I’d like to offer you a solution if I may be providing you with a Manhattan Freeview box that will allow you to use these services that you cannot get directly through your TV. I know it’s not a perfect solution, however I hope it’s an option you’ll consider.Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -

Iv no idea where you get that from but even my mums bargain basement/unbranded smart tv lets her download apps such as iplayer, 4od , youtube, netflix etc.
And iv never seen a main brand that doesnt allow this ..
Also, i have never seen a Polaroid TV so i could be talking out of my backside
I thnk you may have. These were the Tv's that were all over the news both on tv and newspapers when Asda did thier first and last Black Friday event a few years back. These were the Tv's you saw everybody fighting over. The more I live, the more I learn.

If it is a TV everyone was fighting over in the black Friday, I would have joined them as the picture is just as good if not better than my Samsung TV's that I haveSpending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0

The problem with the majority of these smart tvs is that they are limited to the catch up channels they come pre installed with. Yes you can get loads of apps (of streams you have never heard of) but not all the major terrestrial channels. My LGs come with iPlayer and 5 only and the browser is woeful at playing itv and 4. I will never buy a smart tv again and next time will get a stick / box which gives more options.0

Hats off to Asda for that response.
It seems customer service/satisfaction is not dead afterall0 -
What a great response from Asda, no wonder people are now using supermarkets rather than electrical retailers for their home entertainment needs.
Lower price, more value for money and knowledgeable customer services.Became mortgage free 1st March 20230 -
I got a NowTV box when they first came out. Still works fine but the ITV Hub is a cut down version and a lot of programmes don't show up. Mostly just stuff from the last day or so.
Best to get an Amazon Fire Stick. It's what I use mostly now.
I haven't got a smart TV but my current TV was a cheapy from ASDA 5 years ago before they went "smart". My bluray player I got a few years ago is "smart" however half the apps it came with are no longer supported and locked out unusable. I suppose this is the way Smart TVs will go after some years down the line after manufacture.0 -
I'm buying a Polaroid tv today so I done a little research. As far as I'm aware there's an app called "Polaroid Smart Centre" which basically allows you to mirror whatever is on your device (phone, tablet)0

I'm buying a Polaroid tv today so I done a little research. As far as I'm aware there's an app called "Polaroid Smart Centre" which basically allows you to mirror whatever is on your device (phone, tablet) to your Polaroid Smart tv. It works for series 3 and 4 I think. So you downloaded the apps that you want on your TV to your phone/tablet instead. Then just play the show you want to watch on your phone/tablet and using the Polaroid Smart Centre app mirror it to your TV (similar to a Google ChromeCast). I'll find the link and post it here.0
