we went on to rightmove - then looked at house sale prices for the area and it showed the previous listing with photos

As soon as we bought the house the old pics vanished
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...

I've had some success in the past by Googling 27 Acacia Road, Anytown or whatever and finding the old archived Rightmove listing which will be greyed out. In fact I make a point of doing that with any property I'm interested in. You can find some interesting stuff. I was even able to contact the neighbour of a property we were interested in who had objected to a planning application on the property (the vendor got permission for a house in the garden) and find out his opinion of the value of the property (we weren't local)!

We're wondering how they could add that much value to a new build with no obvious extensions/changes etc. The area hasn't increased in value either.

Obviously the previous owner could've undervalued it or wanted a quick sale.

If it was a new build how could it have a previous owner ???
  • Yes it is possible on Zoopla. I looked on there and saw some images that were taken by an amateur photographer just weeks before it was relisted using another company that uses a professional photographer. The difference was inedible and the amateur photos gave me much more of an idea of what the place really looked like. The pro photos weren't fake but they made everything look as good as it could whereas the others were more how it would naturally look.

At one stage a local supermarket offered a service that used photos to design icing for birthday cakes, but in general I have always found photos to be inedible.
