I've found an old passport that has the right edge snipped off of it, not sure why. I'm wondering if this will be sufficient?

The passport office cuts the corners off old passports when you send them away to get a new passport.

Nope they are saying expired passport is not enough. They want birth certificate and a letter and passport number of a British passport holder in addition to the expired passport.

sent through the link. They've now agreed to accept expired passport AND birth certificate. That's beyond what the govt requires but not a problem for me really.
