Registry Cleaning - Is There Any Point?

  • I too did not know untill this read that Win 7 has a bulit in autodefrag, as for the registry if it ain't broke leave it alone. That said I run Advanced system care on my machines and that seems to keep them clear of crap files,junk, ect.

    Presumably CCleaner is not as good as I thought?
    Are there other unnecessary/risky operations on CCleaner e.g. duplicate files.
    Forgotten but not gone.

    I wouldn't use the registry cleaner in CCleaner (or any other product).

    And I wouldn't just delete duplicate files without a "sanity check". You want to make sure you have backups, and that you aren't deleting any necessary system files. Probably fine if you know what you're doing.

    But the basic file/cache deletion features of CCleaner are quite handy so long as you know what each option does. I use it all the time.
