Direct Debit contradiction

So, according to my credit card statement, my fixed monthly Direct debit payment was paid on 10th Nov. However, my current account still does not show any Direct Debit payment or even one pending setup.

Where do I stand on this? Should I contact my CC company and make them aware? My Bank? Or simply feign ignorance and count my blessings?

Have you got another current account? Check if it's been paid from there. If not, call them. Better to get everything sorted and know where you stand now.
  • Ive had this a number of times usually its due to updating later than it being taken but they hold the funds so when you attempt to make a payment you see a different balance.

I had a similar issue with Santander a while back. They explained...

    - Their system was late requesting/collecting the direct debit.

    - They knew their system was 'running late', so without saying anything to me, they updated my card account as though the direct debit had been collected (even though it hadn't really). This avoided triggering late payment fees, interest etc.

    - Their system eventually collected the direct debit payment from my bank account 4 or 5 days later.

Is this a Bank of Ireland backed credit card? so AA, Post Office, etc?

Thanks all. UK based CC. My bank have confirmed that they can see no evidence of any DD being taken but that they usually don't get prior notification if a company take payment. However, every other DD I've had set up has always displayed itself in my online banking a few days before payment. I'll just have to sit this one out and see what happens.

    I'm confused.

How have you received a statement already that includes a payment that was only due last Thursday?

Or are you suggesting this is what your online account (with the CC company) tells you?

In any event, under the rules of the DD scheme, the collector can collect up to 3 working days after the specified date, so that means tomorrow. I would wait until tomorrow and see what materialises.

However, having said that, CC companies usually set collection of DD very late, and so if it has not been paid yet, you could find yourself facing late payment fees and a possible default.
You have already contacted your bank and they have told you they have not paid the cc company. I suggest you contact the CC company and see if they really do think they have received the money.

(If they say they have, double check the Direct Debit Mandate set-up notification they would have provided you, to ensure it has your correct bank details on it)

The statement in question is an automatic online one available in PDF format.

I've logged on again tonight and the statement page for the CC now contradicts itself. Along the top it shows a sliding bar graphic of my balance now showing what it would be if the DD hadn't been paid (this used to be showing as having been paid). However, below that and on the PDF statement still shows my balance after the DD is paid. Guess I'll get more clarity over night.
