How to format hard drive?
Comments
-
So Disk 1 must be that drive, then. 300Gb capacity, does that match the published spec for that drive?
Are you up for dismantling the external drive and taking the actual hard drive out of the casing, and installing it internally in your PC?
You'll need some internal SATA and power leads.
It doesn't seem to have a capacity marked on it.
Noooo! I'm not up for dismantling computers:eek:
The link you gave above strays far too far into the techno world for my little brain!0 -

Don't you want to learn new stuff? Doesn't the prospect of figuring out how to do this intrigue you?
Here, here's how to do it

If you plug it back in, and right-click on both the 'Disk 1' box, and then the box to the right, what appears in the two pop-up menus?0

Apparantly so.
OP, it may be that the drive is formatted fine but just needs a letter assigned. Plug the drive back in, right click on it in the bottom half of that Storage Management window and choose change drive letter and paths, and add an unused letter.
If that still doesn't work, there's a format option in the right click menu too.

Thanks for the link, I will have a look at that, but it's definitely not been formatted for Windows. It has previously been used on a MAC, was given to me with a "you'll have to format it for your laptop".0 -
