Travel Credit Card Issue

in Credit cards
Hi all,
Looking for some help - currently in Australia and after using the advice given on the Travel Credit Cards write up we went for the Barclaycard Platinum Travel Credit Card.
However it seems Australia Cash Machine\ATM charge when using a credit card to withdrawn cash
We've tried using the Westpac bank as its part of the global partners with Barclay however no look
Not sure if we are missing something

I'm sure you've probably found this out yourself, but Australian ATMs generally charge for using ANY card that isn't issued by that bank. So for example you would be charged using a combank card at a nab atm.
There really is no way to get around it.
If you are worried just try to do larger withdrawals so you don't have to pay the fee as often.0 -
You've been given the incorrect information.
Using Westpac will result in a currency loading (2.99%) but nothing else due to their agreement with Barclays - but only with their debit/atm cards not credit cards.
Try withdrawing cash over the counter if the ATMs surcharge (with ID) or try another bank's ATM as not all will surcharge.I'm sure you've probably found this out yourself, but Australian ATMs generally charge for using ANY card that isn't issued by that bank. Thanks for the advice - will try over the counter or if not will just have to do larger withdraws.
Tried a few bank ATMs now and they all seemed to charge $2.80 to $3.00. It's not a massive amount but still a bit gutted as we only went with this credit card due to the advice given on the sites article about Travel Credit Cards as it says there were no charges when withdrawing cash

Well you could have done nothing and paid "card from hell" fees in addition to Aussie ATM charges.0 -

There are no fees for withdrawing cash with this credit card, its the ATM that is charging the fees, just like you get in the UK, when you use certain link ATM's, they carry a charge, and although there is no fee for withdrawing cash using debit or certain credit cards the ATM does, and in the UK you accept that fee if you continue, or use a free paying ATM instead,
As others have said i'm sure most of the ATM's charge for using non local accounts, (They did when I visited a few years ago) so I would just reduce the amount of withdrawals you make, within reason and staying safe with cash holding, or use the card to purchase rather then withdrawing cash and then pay it off in time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. PeacefulWaters - very true atleats we aren't being charged twice for withdrawning cash.
Westie983 - agree it's the ATM charging the fee. At time we weren't sure if only certain ATMs were charging aka like the UK but as others have said it looks as though none local cards are charged regardless.
We were just a bit naive and did not expert any local charges.0
