How much of a hinderance is being self-employed?

I've been self-employed (well actually I started a LTD company and will be getting paid through that) and have been looking at personal loans, credit on shopping (PC World etc) and they all seem pretty clear that you must be in full-time employment to be approved.
Is this enforced in reality or do most places approve self-employed people?
It sounds like lots of companies are taking on staff as self-employed so you'd think there would be more acceptance of this type of work?
As I work through my LTD company, would that make a difference to my chances?
Thanks.

Self employed is still employed.
Lenders will apply their own view of risk to it, but it's not an automatic decline.0 -

So you are employed, hopefully being paid through PAYE.
That's all the lender wants/needs to know
However, it sounds like this is a recent thing. Some lenders may want you to have been employed in the same position for a required period, or if not, they will usually ask about your employment history.0
