Airmail letters

As my daughter has just moved abroad, I thought it might be a nice stocking filler for the grandchildren to get a pack of airmail letters so that they could write to her. It appears that, although you can, with difficulty, get the separate pads and envelopes, but nobody makes the letters that they used to make that were a letter and an envelope in one.

Have I not looked enough or are they now a thing of the past?

They are now a thing of the past, I believe that they stopped them back in 2012.
It's a shame as they were a good way to write to people overseas but it now means that people that choose to use the old way of keeping in touch now have to pay more to do so :0(

Were they the forces 'bluey' type?

No idea! :-) They were like a sheet of very thin paper, coloured blue, which folded into a letter size and had edges that folded over to make it into an envelope which had to be split to be opened.

Can't say I can be bothered to make envelopes, particularly as you can buy the paper and envelopes from Amazon, which would last a while I would think. Just a shame that something else that worked really well has gone....
  • Nice thought but I think Skype, email, whatsapp etc. have made Airmail just about redundant.

There are quite a few on Ebay, old but unused, will just need a new stamp.

I agree, but it's always nice to receive a (nice) letter, and for the children a good exercise for their writing too - they are 5 and 7.

Wouldn't it be sad if letter writing just faded away?

You can't be bothered to make the effort, then say it's a shame if letter writing died out ;)

It is alive and well on MSE, only it goes under the name of posting
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

You may have time to play Blue Peter, but I work full-time and have better things to do with my time than make things out of sticky backed plastic and loo rolls.

However, the art of letter writing continues, be it electronic or by hand. I happen to think that children writing letters is a good thing - this is for my grandchildren, not for me.

I can't think of anything better to do with my time than demonstrate thoughtfulness and thrift, particularly when it comes to my grandchildren( bearing in mind it was you that came here asking for advice)

I see you couldn't even be bothered to look on Pinterest because it was a simple matter of taking a piece of a4 paper and do a couple of diagonal folds: seems that's beneath you.

I'm not sure why you need to state you happen to think writing letters is a good thing, I can't see where anyone has suggested other :rotfl:
