Is soya milk safe for men?

I tried giving up cows milk and I've had a dramatic improvement in my eczema, I've read that there are hormones in cows milk that can cause inflammation
At the moment I'm having water on my cornflakes and black coffee
But some of the women at work take soya& almond milk to help with the menopause, if it has female hormones its probably something I should avoid?
Which of the following should males avoid?
Soya
Almond milk
Hazelnut milk
Rice milk
Coconut milk
Amy others?
Thank you

Just drink the ones you like.
If there are any changes in you, just embrace them. This is 2016 after all. :cool:0 -
Maybe start eating sardines to make up for the lack of calcium too!0

There are many vegetarians and vegans who are male so I would think soya milk would be used by them. From memory without me doing a search, soya milk contains plant estrogen which is why women use it during menopause when their own estrogen is depleting.
I've tried all the milks available. I don't like rice milk, plain soya or oat milk, the oat milk tastes like porridge which I detest. I don't like any soya milk in my tea or coffee either. I use coconut, hazelnut or cashew alpro milk on my cereal which tastes sweet so I don't need sugar and it has half the calories of fresh milk, which is the reason I'm using it at the moment. I like all the soya yoghurts and I don't mind pouring these on my cereal.
The soya milks I have tried and I don't like, I just add a teaspoon of drinking chocolate to turn it into a milkshake rather than waste it and pour it down the sink.
Good news you've had improvement with your skin. Have you tried this soap before "dudu osun" black African soap. I have sensitive skin which makes me scrat like a loppy dog but no trouble with this soap and would highly recommend it. It's used to help most skin conditions from acne to psoriasis and available from loads of sellers on amazon. Never seen it in any shop but if anyone does can you point me in the right direction please.0 -

Have a look here to see if it's in a shop near you

Soya milk isn't actually great for anyone, it's so heavily processed.
I would try one of the other milk replacements and look for one that doesn't have added sugar, which lots do. I think I managed to find a non-sweetened alpro almond milk in Sainsbury's and Kara Coconut milk is a good option. It's possible to make your own almond milk if you have a good blender - not saying you have to, but shows it isn't as heavily processed as soya which you couldn't make for yourself.
My sister also found giving up cows milk improved her eczema and my skin is less dry since I cut back too. I should cut it out altogether really, I know from the effect it has on my stomach it's not really good for me, but whilst I could happily never have milk in coffee / on cereal, I would struggle to never have cheese or ice cream.0 -
You can get lacto-free milk which may be better - and taste better.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0

Thank you everyone
Its the plant estrogen that's the main concern but I suppose there could be other nasties from processing, I wonder if making it myself avoids the estrogen?
Before I realised all this I did like the hazelnut milk more than any other, all of them looked like they had more sugar than I'd want (thinking of teeth)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

TBH most milk is processed in some form and some more than others, most will have sugar in and cows milk also has sugar. You can buy unsweetened versions of most milk types if that bothers you. If you are very worried stick to organic and make sure it's not linked to any non organic ingredients as far back as you can, directly or indirectly- though this is very difficult, time consuming and very expensive. (Or you can make your own milk; almond, rice, oat...etc can all be made at home but again, look at how organic your ingredients are, including the treated water, if this worries you.) Hormones don't stop at soya milk, there are traces of the female pill in our water (oestrogen being one of them) both the bottled and tapped type if you really want to worry yourself crazy!
But I just wanted to respond to your worries over oestrogen; men have/create oestrogen too, just a lower form than women. Unless you are guzzling litres of the stuff every day I really wouldn't worry, it's not alien to your body. Many foods have soya as a bulking agent or because it's cheaper than other ingredients, I don't think the odd cup or bowl of soya milk will do much0 -
I've been drinking soya milk for decades. Thankfully no sign of me growing large breasts or indeed of my manly bits dropping off ... yet.0

Interesting - did you notice any changes compared with before - e.g. personality?
If it had had an effect - I was thinking of an intriguing revenge story (from the female perspective) say a wife who suffers from domestic abuse decides to doctor her husband's diet, his bad temper disappears, and other subtle changes begin to show themselves over time!!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
