Garden wall construction, estimates/options/quotes

Need to construct a rear garden wall on the rear boundary, approx. height 1metre, approx. length 4.75 metres. The wall is to be double skinned using blocks and bricks.

The foundation has been completed and concrete footings are ready. Heavy concrete slabs are set at the rear of the footings to help secure and stabilise the wall. Blocks and brick materials are available. Probably need a double row of blue bricks to bring the wall up to the specified height and finish with more durable/weatherproof bricks.

A builder let me down so this in an uncompleted project (it's a few years since work started). I need someone to complete the work. The site is in the Midlands. I'm guessing this is 2-3 days work max. Any ideas how much I should expect this to cost and where I might find a reliable builder? Are there any building supplier Websites where I can request a quote?

Thanks

  • If it helps give you an idea, for a similar height wall (more like 0.8m) and length (maybe a metre longer) I paid all in about £900 in the south east but this was for a single skin with two end piers, one support pier and a separate standalone pier, with a double tile creasing course and a row of blue engineering bricks on top.

On that basis I'd estimate you're looking at approximately double in materials and maybe slightly less than double in labour. The guy that did mine did it in about 2.5 days and that included demolishing the old wall, carting away the waste and reusing existing footings.

I think anywhere from £1700-2000 would be a good ballpark around here so adjusting for your location, maybe £1500-1800? My brickie didn't charge VAT so that may have an impact on final price too.
