what are your experiences of man-with-a-van

I'm trying to move a washing machine to my flat from my friends and went on a man-with-a-van site via gumtree where you type in the 2 post codes and get a quote

one quote was £45 and I accepted this but then found it asking for my card number or PayPal payment

I needed to ask if there was extra on top for 3 flights of stairs (you type stuff in and they are supposed to reply but haven't replied so far)

I dont want him to arrive, see the stairs and want more money and aslo I need to know what DAY he can make

should I trust it? could be they only organise a date AFTER you've paid

anyone used a site like this?

thanks for anyone with experience

Find a man with a van rather than a third party website! 30 seconds on facebook or google should find plenty.

If the only response is to quote and ask for money look elsewhere.

When I've posted on such sites I've always stated clearly the delivery situation, to stop this wishy washy situation you're now in.

Washing machine. Easy parking 6' from wide ground floor door. Up 3 flights of stairs 3' wide.
  • I used to move around a lot until I brought a home, always used AnyVan - quickly get cheap quotes and check their reviews before you pick them.

I wouldn't be giving my card number to someone from Gumtree. Most of them there would want cash in hand.
Ask around,.... who has a van or even a trailer to go on the back of their car.

Ive used Anyvan.com with good results.

Do be detailed in what you are moving, post pictures on the request for quotes if you have something unusual.

Do read the feedback reviews before choosing.
