I have an old kawasaki disk valve engine
this is the diskvalve http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/MEoAAOSwRgJXkjPK/s-l225.jpg as you can see , its keyed to the shaft , but can be reversed
the only measurment I can find is "inlet port opens 115 deg BTDC
this is an old engine set at TDC
fitted

and reversed

am I right in thinking that the first position is correct , and that the cuttiut will just start to open the flow of fuel at 115 derg BTDC , whereas the second will allow flow AFTER TDC
as you can guess , I have rebuilt her , and she will not run
there are no markings on the disk , and the engine came in a box striped down

yes its a ke125 , with verification I can check it with minimum work by looking thru the carb , but its a faily big job to strip it down to reverse it ,Save a Rachael

I would agree, first photo looks correct from the info you have given.
Don’t know if this is of help. Page 50, section 42 mentions marking the valve on disassembly so that it can be reassembled the correct way. Sounds like whoever stripped it didn't do this.

cheers , the engine was stripped when I got it
just checked via the carb and slowly turning the engine , I have set it as in the second photo , IE , its opening AFTER TDC , just found this on youtube https://youtu.be/YE3xrr3cz-k
shows the inlet opening as the piston is coming back up
horrible job to get to this thing , side off , clutch + basket off to get to the disk cover screws , and about £15 of "o" rings and seals ,Save a Rachael

Yes, that is how it's usually quoted
You can always take a file to it
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
pulled the engine apart this morning , side off , clutch and basket out , disk valve cover of and reversed it , rebuilt here and she fired up first kick .
lots and lots of smoke as the piston/crank were well oiled and I had used a lot of grease during the rebuild
set the timing more accurate tomorrow with an ohm meter , and see if she actually runs !
original engine had a "digestion" problem , eat a M6 nut/bolt or something , massive damage to disk valve crankcases and crank plus damage to the barrel
for a 2 stroke they are a fairly complex engineSave a Rachael
