After accident happened, bought the car sameday

I had an accident this morning. luckily I survived with nothing serious but the car didn't. And I made an insurance claim and found out it will take 7-10 working days to get my insurer to offer me the market value since it can no longer be repaired as they told me.

My (noob) question is: do I have to insure the car (I bought the sameday) with new insurer or the current one? How does it work out?

Inform the insurer that you wish to change the insurance over to the new vehicle.
The claim on your old vehicle will still be valid as it happened whilst it was still covered by the policy.

I still have to inform the new insurer about the accident. Don't I?

If your new car is acceptable to your current insurer then it will be cheaper to add it to your existing policy.

If you take out a new policy then you do have to disclose all your incidents over the history required. Usually 5 years

If you take out a new policy and have ncd left on your old one then bear in mind that you cannot use any ncd on your new policy! (Unless you cancel your old policy prior to taking out the new one - if you cancel you wouldn't get any refund of premium from the old policy)

What insurance have you claimed on?

What do you mean "current insurer" and "new one"?

EDIT: I read the other replies and you mean you have bought a replacement car. I thought you bought a car and wrote it off today.

You just ring up your current insurer and get the policy transferred to the replacement vehicle unless they say the policy terminates with a write off settlement.

As the old policy has paid out he'd be free to use any no claims he hasn't lost.

Yes, but only if he cancelled the old policy prior to taking out the new one! Meaning having to pay the full year on the previous policy

Current insurer meaning the right now who is dealing with my claim. And as for new one as in new insurer.
  • You can add the new car to the company your insured with now...just ring up give them the details and carry on as normal your policy may go up or down a bit depending on the car but it's the easiest option..

If you want to take out new insurance with a different insurer for the new car then you need to ring and cancel your insurance for the company you're currently with.

I read it as you had a car accident, wrote it off, went out and got a new one the same day and now don't know if you can keep the insurance or if you have to change it?

Are you paying annually or monthly?
