Dore Programme ?

Has anyone had first hand experience of this programme? I am beginning to think that this could be a way forward for my older son, who is severely dyslexic and struggling at high school. I am wary about the information on the internet as it could just be hype.

Any info , good or bad would be fab.

TIA

    Hi,

I did the self test on the website for my son as I think he's mildly dyspraxic - a few days later I got a phone call from a man who told me a bit about the programme. He said that in his experience, if treated correctly, dyspraxia & dyslexia (& ADHD I think) can be all but cured as DORE treats (through excercise) the part of the brain called the cerebellum, which is apparantly not working properly in these instances.

I asked if it was a profit making organisation & he said 'no' - but he did say that there was a charge for the programme (includes visiting a DORE centre) if we were to take the offer up....however, he did send me an info. pack & DVD to watch.
The programme is apparantly endorsed by Toyah Wilcox & Kenny Logan.

Let me know if you want more info. as I still have the pack - alternatively PM me for the freephone tel. no. if you like....

My DD went through the programme a few years ago after seeing it on The tonight programme with Trevor Macdonald. I can't remember how much it cost altogether sorry. The only negative thing we found that after a while she got bored doing the daily exercises and it was a struggle making her do them.

Overall we were very pleased with the results and we have no regrets. She was quite depressed about school when she started, but we started to see a difference and she became alot happier.

This BBC programme may be of interest, it was shown recently here in Wales

Thank you both so much for your replies.

What sort of differences did you notice with your daughter *zippy* ?
Did her reading writing and spelling improve or was it more a confidence thing?
What age was she when you did the programme?
Would you regard her as 'cured' ?

I'm very interested in knowing your thoughts

    TIA

Hi - My son is nearly 15 and has a really low concentration level. We had someone from the Dore programme come to the house a couple of years ago regarding the possibility of him doing this. At the time we were in the process of getting him tested for ADHD and to date we are still waiting.

Although I do not think he has ADHD he does have trouble concentrating for any length of time and to be honest it appears to be getting worse. So I was wondering whether this programme could help him and if any of you good people have had experience of it. Scott Quinnell (the welsh rugby player) endorses this programme as he is dyslexic and said it had changed his life around. It is an expensive programme to go and and alot of it is exercises which need to be carried out in the home. To be honest I would pay for it (all our debts finish in August this year and we will have the disposable income to cover the programme - around £2k) but OH thinks it will be a waste of money.

I haven't said anything to OH yet about my thoughts on this programme since we saw the bloke from Dore the last time. So I thought I would do some intensive research into it and see if it will help my son and his level of concentration. I am going to Cardiff at the end of March and will make an appointment to have a look around the centre and speak to them again, but part of my research is with you lovely people :D .

If anybody can help I would be really grateful. Many thanks.

We took our DD to the Cardiff centre when it first opened. She was then of primary school age (now 16) and had been recently diagnosed dyslexic. The problem we had was keeping her motivated to do the exercises properly day in day out, but if your son is keen to give it a go you might reduce this problem. The staff were fantastic, especially Matt if he's still there and they helped us keep her going. We have never regretted doing it or the money spent, when we started DD was quite depressed about school and within a few months she blossomed and became alot more confident.

I don't know if you caught it, but it was featured on the Wonderland programme this week when the lady bought a school as her son was so distruptive.

I watched the Wonderland programme too, and I'd say the problem that lady had was keeping her son motivated to do the exercises. so that's worth thinking about ...

we enquired about this for my eldest son,now nearly 12 who is Dyspraxic

it was quite expensive ! and the OT he was going to at the time said she could set him similar exercises to help ( FOR FREE!!)

he did really well with the OT and she signed him off ,as he progressed greatly :)

he now is in secondary school ( since sept) and doesnt appear to have too many problems. The SEN team there are !!!!!! hot though and they have many groups which encourage and advise / help him :)

all his teachers are aware of his condition and <touch wood> no bullying etc has occurred ( which was my main worry :( ) but there are lots of other Dyspraxics in the school too :)

I am glad we didnt "waste" the money on Dore now,as i think he got as much out of the OT as he would / could out of Dore

I am happy to be proved otherwise though,so if anyone has great success stories of Dore and Dyspraxics i would love to hear :)

Many thanks for your replies. I will continue my 'research' and let you know of my findings and if indeed we progress. However, please continue to share your stores/experiences of the Dore programme.

    Many thanks once again.

  • I done the on-line test for my step son who's 12 and has 'adhd'.

They rung me a couple of days later and sent some info which was very informative.

There is a guy local to me who does similar, he calls it brain gym. Might be a cheaper option.

    best wishes

  • My Daughter has been on the Dore Programme for the past 10mths.
She is Dyslexic, and she seems to have done really well out of it.

Its meant to be a 12-18mth programme, but they rang me on Friday to say the had gone BUST !

Now, obviously we have spent ALOT of money upfront for this, but first and foremost can anyone suggest any alternative programmes for dyslexia for my Daughter? We live in Essex.

Secondly, how do I stand for any kind of refund?
I'm guessing its just tough luck if they have gone bust!
Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
    (MSE Andrea says ok!)
