HP C309A Printer fault...

I have a C309A printer, I have not used it in a while, when powered up it reports jammed carraige, I have tried all the resets discovered on line and including the #3, #6 and #9, there is definately no paper jam and the printerhead moves freely, before I dispose of it and buy a new printer is there anything else to explore, the ink is old, but I'm loathed to replace new inks when for a few ££s more I can get a new all in one unit.
