Possible to close an account online?

I have an instant access savings account with HSBC which I never use anymore because my online saver account has a much higher rate of interest. I was wondering, is it possible to close the account online? If not, could I do it over the phone? Thanks

Yes, you can login to your HSBC account online and send a secure message requesting that your account be closed or call them via 08457 404440

I just spoke to them on the phone, and I was told that I have to write to my local branch to close the account, unfortunately0

As the other poster said, just send a message via 'My messages' on online banking and they'll close the account for you.0
