Car insurance premiums after at-fault claim

Hi

I drove into someone yesterday and I am therefore at faul. Still waiting to hear about claim from his end, but I've had my own car assessed this morning. The assessor says they can repair the door and wheel arch relatively easily, and don't think that will be a ridiculously large amount. However, they've also seen a cut into my alloy wheel and have put that down as part of the damage. I have a mini with black alloys, so this is likely to add another £300 or so to the claim. Thing is, I don't really think it's noticeable and I could totally live with it.

My question is, will my premium increase be proportional to the size of the claim? If my premium is likely to be higher if I get a new alloy then I won't bother. However if there's unlikely to be much difference either way then I may as well get the new alloy.

Please can anyone help?

300 pounds is not much compared to the damage you have to pay for the other car

You can always ask the insurer if they can not repair/ replace that alloy

  • The actual amount of the claim doesn't usually change the premium that much (especially just a few hundred pounds), more just the fact you've had a fault claim to begin with.

Each insurer could be different though so as above, I'd suggest speaking to your insurance company and asking them.

My renewal was £5 more after an at fault claim with injury compensation.

If your claiming just get everything done, it wont change the premium rise. £300 or £3000 makes little difference just whos at fault.
