Dell Inspiron 1390 WiFi card in a Dell Inspiron 1520 : sometimes on, sometimes off!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop with WinVista Home Edition, and on occasion when I turn it on after several hours off, the WiFi facility doesn't come on and I have to go into Control Panel > Hardware and play around in Network Adapter settings to activate the WiFi and turn it on then it hooks up to my broadband connection as soon as it comes on. Is this trait common to the older Dell Inspiron laptops on WinVista etc? What can be done to make it stay on all the time? Sometimes the WiFi facility within the laptop will stay on for ages after I have fiddled around and reactivated it. ;)
