just finished uni - when can i get jsa

i have just finished my last uni exams.
i have been applying for jobs year but as yet i do not have a job.
can i start to claim jsa? or do i have to wait till the next academic year?

    hmm people taking gap years straight from school can apply straight away so maybe you can? really don't know though.

    You can make a claim for JSA the first Monday after the end of the term. You need to be available for and actively seeking work. Some universities and unions organise signing on sessions for students with the local Department for Work and Pensions.

    You can claim from the day you officially leave university. I remember my date was 6/6/97. (as you can tell i clearly didn;t have happy memories of being at university and ws looking forward to the official end date). I went down to the DSS office to sign on on that date.
