Which current account to start off with for switching?

Hi,
I want to be able to 'sacrifice' a current account so i can claim the switching bonus cash and benefits.
I currently have 1 current account with Halifax. Wages go straight in and i have DD's coming out every month etc. Never in overdraft. Claiming the £5 reward (soon to be £3). Been with them since i was born. Would like to keep this account open.
Can anyone recommend a current account to open that is worth nothing (or the least) so that i can switch to something better with that account.
I have to mention as well so that anyone that helps can advise me. I have not applied for credit for awhile. My credit scores are all 'Fair' on credit score sites. I (We. Me and wife) maybe applying for mortgage in the new year (currently trying to sell our house).
Would applying for a current account and switching have any effect on credit scores and mortgage application, say if we applied a month or two after i open and switch a new current account?
Thanks

The easiest account to open would be a Halifax standard current account as you already bank with them. You can get your sort code and account number instantly online and the paperwork/card has always been pretty prompt imo.0

Your wife could do the same?0

She could.
Im not sure what it counts as but we will be porting our current mortgage to the new property. Am i right in thinking that it doesnt count as an application / credit check?
Just a bit unsure whether to do it now or wait till we're settled.0
