Defaulting with EE since Jan 2015

Hey all, just opening this thread on behalf of a friend, he has been declined car leasing so we thought we should check his file. A little silly of us not check prior.

Anyway on the file we found that he has been defaulting since jan 2015, he has no knowledge of the account which was opened in 2013 from what he recalls and has never been contacted by EE in regards to a debt, the amount defaulted is 197 pounds which is not the issue, however the fact he has not been contacted and every month he has a big red D on the marker is no sign of good news. Does he have any room to challenge this as he has not been contacted by them, will call them first thing in the morning to find out what the hell its for and see if they can remove the defaults and why they have chose to stay silent and not contact him as his address and number has been the same for 15 years.

any advice?

Thanks

It's his responsibility to pay the money he owes, not their responsibility to chase him for it.

If it's a case of identity fraud, yes he will be able to get it removed. But if it's an account he closed, and then "forgot" about, the credit file is a true reflection of the facts.

Yes as above. You don't have a leg to stand on in regards to them not contacting him.
If he can prove he did not take out those contract the defaults will be removed otherwise they will be staying for 6 years.
