Worth noting that there *is* funding available if you know where to look. Books like the Educational Grants Directory should be available at your nearest reference library. They won't solve all your problems but it is surprising how many trusts are out there with different remits who can make a small grant to a 'female student of good character born in the country of Lincoln and studying science'. Universities themselves often have scholarships too. It's definitely worth putting in some time researching other funding sources

Possibly living in London is what makes me struggle, but I was born here and all my family are here.

The mortgage was fine when it was two of us paying it, but hey ho.

I have plans to move further out when I am older. But my job is in London (not the greatest pay, but have been here 12 years).

I meant to quote the below, but didn't for some reason.
I wonder if it is because you live in London that money is such a struggle? That plus of course it is just you. We moved out of London 28 years ago due to the extortionate cost of housing and fed up of sitting in traffic or coping with trains up to town. Best thing we ever did.
