Confused.com - quote increased becasue NCB higher??

Hi
I am perplexed by the behaviour of the Confused.com web site. I have inputted details of my car: 5000m a year & 10 years NCB = £1100 policy with Admiral.
I changed the details to 7000m a year and the quote dropped to £900.
I changed the details again to 12 yrs NCB (I couldn't remember) and the policy quote went UP to £1500 - wft ???????
Why would INCREASING mileage and INCREASING NCB have these weird effects?
I've played around with the settings and small changes of mileage and other minor things seem to affect the quotes a lot. Ive done this till the quote is as low as possible and now bought it, but it is a warning to others... fiddle around until the quote drops :rotfl:
*Quick question - is it ok to tell them I have 10 yrs NCB rather than 12 ????*

Be prepared to have your policy cancelled.
Insurers track quote manipulation and this is a classic example of where you've "played around with minor things until the quote is as low as possible".
Oh and then you'll have a cancellation to declare too.0 -
Strangely, increasing the mileage does sometimes reduce a quote. There's plenty of theories as to why, but I don't know the official reason.
It would seem strange that the quote went up when you increased your no claims bonus. Have you put the right date in for your licence? It's a long shot but if you only put your licence as 11 years 364 days but put 12 years NCB this may be conflicting.
A more plausible reason could be that you've changed the quotes around too much and too many credit checks have been done or the insurer has become suspicious that you are fiddling the quote to try and get a cheaper premium by putting in incorrect information.0 -
I don't understand. If I play around with an online quote machine and change parameters and get 10 different quotes from 10 slightly different inputs, and I then choose the cheapest, what's wrong with that? There is no fraud becasue the details I've input are all accurate, i.e. I do about 5000 m a year but the quote for 7000m was cheaper. And the policy says on it 9+ years NCB is the maximum discount. What have I done that would be reasonable cause to cancel a policy?0

Credit checks? There was no warning about credit checks?
I also do these quotes a lot as I'm always dreaming about what car to buy next... that;s a lot of checks, but my credit score is very high.0 -
It's in the small print. Check your report and I bet you will find plenty of insurance companies on there. Especially if you have been using comparison sights.
It's not to say they WILL cancel your policy, or that you HAVE been giving inaccurate information, but doing 10 different quotes for the same car with differing variations is certainly going to raise some suspicion.0 -
Wow, never knew that. As far as I'm concerned my quote is 100% accurate, I was just annoyed that a seemingly daft thing like raising the NCB from 10 to 12 increased the quote and lowering it also... 10 was the golden number. Same with the mileage, 7000 was cheapest and if I do 5 or 6000 I don't think that is fraudulent, is it??0

If the details you input are accurate why the change between 9/10 or 12 years no claims?
It may seem fishy to them that your putting different values to what should be a fixed figure.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I think you're confusing lying with the standard and quite innocent "what happens if I change my mileage numbers". Watched too much CSI I reckon!0 -

Nope, but I work in the industry, and know of the systems which track multiple quotes with different infomation.
I was referencing your admission in the original post to have manipulated various "minor things" to get the price as low as possible and taken it out on that basis.
As all the questions asked are black and white, to have provided different answers to manipulate the price down is application fraud.
Ergo I stand by my initial comment.0 -

Because tbh I couldn't remember what I had and so did 3 or 4 quotes all around the figure I thought it was (I thought it was 10 and it was actually 12). Look, the wording says, as an example when I click on 10 years it then states: "10 years NCB or more"... which is correct. No?0
