Did anyone read the facebook comments?

Prior to reading them I thought the same that perhaps OP was just being fussy about a little air. After reading them, I was more of the opinion that OP has a valid complaint as the comments were saying they were still cold/the fire was useless even with the heater part switched on and sat right in front of it.

Other comments elsewhere parroted that view and one said they could feel the cold air on their legs where they sat 3m away. I'd say that indicates a considerable "breeze"

It seems to be a common complaint across the valor dimensions range.

I don't think you can categorically state that it's a "common complaint" based purely on three Facebook users and this thread! ;)

However, your link does provide a Dimplex Helpline telephone number which the Op might like to use, although 7p a minute is a bit steep.

  • Some excellent points, in this thread.

The OP is of "senior age", but by no means incapable of reading manuals & operating remote controls ;) Nor am I financially struggling (luckily) - I just hate wasting electricity on heat I don't need.

The remote has only 3 buttons - you don't have any choice about whether or not the fan is on.

I'm going to e-mail Valor about this & I'll let you all know what happens.

    You've all been incredibly helpful.

    Thank you.
  • Is the amount of air flow from the fan, when only the flame effect is on, the same as when the two heat settings are used?
  • Every blown air/ fan heater type thing I've ever had blew cold air if the heating part was switched off. A cool breeze in hot weather.

It doesn't sound faulty, its the way they work.
As the moulded plug has been replaced, it would probably be illegal for the retailer to resell it, due to all the consumer rights/ health and safety regulations . . blah blah

my 1&2kw fire thats fitted in my fireplace does not send any cold air , its a two setting fire ie 1kw 0r 2kw & the flame effect is caused by ribbon thats warmned with two light bulbs, it as 3 switches ,

1/ power on & flame effect. power off.
    2/ 1kw
    3/ 2kw
  • Well, I'm back to let you know the outcome.

Dimplex finally rang me & whilst being very 'understanding', explained that since the fire wasn't faulty (which I already knew), there really was nothing they could do to help me.

They suggested I contact the seller, again, as I should be able to send it back, under 'changed my mind'.

This doesn't seem reasonable to me, as it's not the seller's fault: they can't resell as new, because of me having to refit the plug: I've had it longer than 30 days.

I'm going to try to sell it on eBay, as I certainly don't want to live with it!

I think the swapped plug is a red herring; the buyer is only obliged to accept a return if their terms allow for a return on the basis of you changing your mind.
The same would apply if you had bought it at a bricks and mortar shop: there is no automatic right to return an object to any retailer unless it is faulty or not fit for purpose.
