Drain Clean - how/what to do?

must be the rain causing troubles...
The drain near my front door outside it's not draining as fast as you'd expect, I stuck my hand in it and there's quite a lot of mud
what's the best way to get it in nice working order?
It's draining but very slow and when there's lots of rain is obviously not able to cope. I can stick my hand and remove more mud but I am afraid it needs a bit more than that!
Also how to prevent mud from going in? There is a grid but it's too wide to trap anything.
Thank you!!!!

It's probably just the u-bend blocked. I use an old soup ladle to clear it then it's alright for a few years. Had to buy the wife new ladle though.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

I did that on the drain in the garden and worked like a charm - I guess I can do the same on this one and see how it goes!EU expat working in London0
