Hi all
Trying to update maps on my Sat have unit but have an issue where my PC (or its software) does recognize the unit .
Running W7 and the Satnav unit is new so quite surprised by this as it should be a basic operation.
Tried my device manager but can't see any issue and all drivers are up to date. USB ports all fine.
Looking around the net I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Any help appreciated as usual

  • Have you gone to the manufacturers website to see if there is anything that you need to download first?
I have a Garmin satnav and I needed to download Garmin express before I could get my PC to recognise the unit.

Sorry to drag up an old post but I'm afraid that did not. For some reason I can get my W7 PC to recognize the device..?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks as usual

You've downloaded Garmin Express, and you've got it running, BEFORE you plug your satnav in?
I've no specific experience, but you can get stuck if you plug something in before the computer has drivers on it. And if it's like a smartphone, you might have to change a setting on it to make it 'talk' to the computer, instead of simply charging.
  • It might be the USB lead you're using - my Tom Tom Go 6000 played this trick, with a lead from another item (Nexus 7 IIRC) it would charge when plugged into the PC but not connect to the Tom Tom software or PC, I had to use the USB lead that came with the unit (and is normally in my car, wrapped round and connected to the dashboard mount) before it would connect to the PC. Once I figured this out, I bought another genuine Tom Tom USB lead for in the house use!

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

I’ve moved your thread from the ‘In my home’ board to the ‘Techie Stuff’ board, where it is better suited.
